There are times when the ideal of my childhood memories fuse with the reality that my children are experiencing. Halloween is one such a moment. At least now, while my children are young enough to still see the day for all its magic, and old enough to enjoy it for every ounce of what it is. Watching them run from door to door, screaming, “…next house!” with sugar fueled smiles plastered all over their faces brings its own kind of magic.

Bearing witness to their memories is the greatest joy I’ve ever experienced, and reminds me how blessed I am to be their parent.

okay, so who the fuck is paul cary? i have no idea. i just know that i want to know. i want to drink wine with him, or scotch if he prefers. hell, i’ll drink coors in a fucking can if that’s all we got, just to say i did it. to hear this guy wail, pour it all out, making you wonder if it’s him that’s distorted or the rest of the world, i guess is knowledge enough.

but that’s kind of like saying a kiss on prom night is enough. no, this guy demands a closer look.

i’ve never spent the night in a gutter after a tear in the red light, but if i did and “on the rise” was pouring out of the speakers from a passing car, i’d pull myself from the street with a smile on my face and a “fuck yeah” on my tongue.

like a sucker punch coated in amphetamines, out came this track from my stereo, courtesy of daytrotter. if i was the kind of prick who was content in life to bide my time with the spoon fed tripe that passes as culture these days, i’d have skipped right over him. like i said, who the fuck is paul cary? well, paul cary is the guy that’s going to turn your world upside down, shake all that change from your pocket and then buy you a drink with it in a bar that you’ve been too scared to venture inside of. the denizens of said bar will see that you’re with paul cary and call you one of their own. paul cary will make it alright.

i was cruising through life, when from out of nowhere something changed inside me. i know not how, or why, just that it has. i’ve held this change close to the vest for a while now, but that’s changed. now it’s full on. and i want to share it with you, my friends and family, as this is important to me. i don’t ask that you understand, just that you accept.

i play with dolls. well, not really dolls, more like toys, paper toys to be exact. and in case you have a problem with it, you should know just how bitchin’ these things are. so in the spirit of show not tell…

and there’s so much more. trust me. but the above designers are the ones responsible for my immediate love of paper and somewhat consuming (obsessed?) pursuit. i’ve found others, and if you’re as smitten as i, you will too. be warned though.

if you’re not the obsessed type, but you still think this is cool, there’s some great books out there. i can personally vouch for papertoy monsters. a book w/ 50 pop-out designs from 25 of the best designers. it’d also make a great present for any kid.

if you just don’t get it… blame this dude.
