Tractor Trail
The beaches in Southern California are groomed by tractors. I don’t know if this practice is common place elsewhere, or why, exactly, it’s done there. I used to get caught up in things like that when I went out snapping pix. I’d see the tracks, or maybe a wire, or some other “impurity” and walk away from the scene without having taken the picture.
I’ve since come to realize, for me at least, there’s always a way to incorporate the little irritants in life into your efforts.
Thanks to those who enjoyed the Holga stuff from Venice Beach. There’s plenty more, as well as a bunch of b/w, but this will be the last one of these for a bit. I want to show you some other stuff from some other photographers in addition to some anonymous stuff.
Pacific Ocean Mind Melt
I did quite a few things during my trip out to California. I saw my family, hung with dear friends, took a few snaps with the Holga, and had my mind melted right outta my skull. Nothing illegal mind you and I won’t get into particulars, but there were a few moments there where I felt, no, I knew, that I lost everything I cared about.
Melodramatic? Hell yes, but very eye-opening and the entire experience left me with a better understanding of what’s important in this, my, life.
Volleyball
Just a little vignette of life from the beach. Where the world is right at your toes, and sometimes it’s better to find a cold beer, a palm tree and let it all roll past you.
Symmetry and Why I Love it So
One of my first assignments at Brooks was to photograph something symmetrical. Since then I’ve sought it out and have infused that particular aesthetic into a lot of my work. The original assignment called for perfection (without use of a mirror) and the instructor went through each slide taking it apart for the minor details that negated the perfect symmetry. I however, have grown to love those imperfections, geeking out over a discarded coffee cup or streak of clouds that balance the frame to one side or another. It’s the flaws in a scene that makes it human.
Two Big Chairs
These are the over-sized lifeguard (?) chairs I was talking about in the previous post.
